See the story of the pilot and our insights on data aggregation for distributed manufacturing here.

For example, if a humanitarian organisation buys a soap worth USD 1 for a refugee from a mainstream commercial brand, the consumer, in this case, a refugee, gets benefited from using the soap but the benefit of purchasing the soap from the producer side gets distributed into multiple smaller units; part of it goes to the producers, but the majority of the USD 1 goes to what is termed as rent-seeking parties. With DM, the assumption is that more of this goes to parties who can gain the most from increased economic activity, and that stimulus can be felt locally too.”

At the Frontier Technologies Hub, we work with UKAid to explore how emerging technologies can help to solve a variety of challenges.

In this case study, we present the story and reflect on a completed pilot project from Bangladesh, which looked to see if demand and supply of PPE products could be coordinated by the NGO BRAC, to facilitate distributed manufacturing and create a more resilient supply chain network.
